Development of SVDC Over the Years

The Centre started as a small lab which had Blood test instrument, an ECG machine only. X ray was added within a few months. Slowly and steadily on the strength of the donations received from the members of the Lions Club the lab grew and expanded to include an Ultrasound Scan in 1999. The major fillip to the lab came in 2002 when the CT Scan machine was inaugurated. The centre became complete with the inclusion of the MRI Scan machine in 2007. The journey has been hard but due to the support of innumerable philanthropists and donors, the lab has been able to grow and serve the society continuously. Continuous upgrations of the machinery has been our hallmark. Whenever the latest in the diagnostic field is introduced we have been able to make the upgradation and provide the Best possible diagnostic service to the poor. The cost of any test will bear testimony to the amount of Service the trust carries out. Cost of test is normally 1/3rd of the cost which is charged by any commercial diagnostic centre.

The blood test for sugar in case of a diabetic patient is still kept at Rs.10 (our actual cost for a vaccutainer alone is Rs.16) to facilitate everyone to undergo a test without a feeling that Money should not be a constraint for getting Quality health care. The minimum charges in X ray is Rs.150 only. Similarly the Ultrasound scan was kept at Rs.250 for more than 15 years just to enable the poorest of poor pregnant ladies to come freely without any thought of huge payments and undergo their tests. The CT scan at our centre was kept at Rs.800 for a long time which is normally around Rs.2000 in the city. Similarly we can boast to tell that our MRI rate of Rs.2900 is the best in the medical diagnostic field in the whole of Tamil Nadu. The maintaining of such low rates is possible due to the contributions of many Donors, service minded Doctors and Staff, voluntary Lions who manage the centre, the philanthropic College authorities and many more allied departments which offer their support and help to our Centre.

Proposal for New Building

The dream of the Diagnostic Centre has been to move to an own or leased premises with a permanent building. The current building was built by the Lions District 324 A1 in the leased land given by the Shri Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha which runs the DG Vaishnav College. The rent is paid monthly to the Trust which has been increasing over the years. The lease of the land is also expiring in a few years. Hence the need was felt for an own building. But the land cost in the Chennai city has skyrocketed and the dream to own a piece of land is farfetched for an NGO unless it is leased by Philantropists. Hence it is requested that 4 grounds in your esteemed institution may be kindly provided to us on a long lease to enable us construct and run a Charitable Diagnostic Centre.

It is pertinent to mention that the D.G. Vaishnav College is proud to have us in their campus and we are accounted as one of their Social projects to the Society and have earned a good name through this service.

Proposal for Upgradations and Expansions of Equipment

The medical field is constantly evolving and if the equipments and machines are not upgraded, the results of the tests may not be relevant to the doctors. Hence the diagnostic Centre always strives to upgrade the equipments whenever a new advanced version is available in the market. This has been well appreciated by the Doctors referring patients to our lab. This also has been well received by the patients who feel that they are getting the best results and value for money they are paying. In this regard the following upgradations of the machinery are due at the Diagnostic Centre.

3 Tesla MRI

The upgradation of the MRI is due at the centre. We are using a 1.5 Tesla fixed magnet MRI now. The next upgrade will be the 3 Tesla MRI which will give more accurate and elaborate views of the body than the current model.
We have quotations for the following machines under consideration:

New 3 T MRI – Seimens – Approx Rs.9 crores
New 1.5 T MRI – Seimens – Approx Rs.6.5 crores
Refurbished 1.5 T MRI – Seimens – Approx 1.5 crores

Advanced Ultrasound Machine

Currently the centre is having 3 USG machines. But the need for the test are increasing day by day and more than 100 patients are being screened on a daily basis. Hence the need for another Ultrasound Machine is absolutely necessary. We have the quotations for the following machines under consideration:

Upgradation of X Ray Reader of Siemens Multiphos 450

Currently the X-Ray reader is more than 6 yrs old and needs an upgradation to capture x-rays with more clarity and precision. About 100 patients with needs of X ray of various parts visit the centre on a daily basis.
